Online lessons offer a convenient and time-saving alternative to lessons held at a studio location. Not only do the students progress as well as in-person lessons (assuming they practice regularly), but you have the added convenience of not have to drive through traffic to the studio. Most of my students are located in areas like Mountain View, Los Altos, Atherton, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Saratoga, and San Jose, but now online lessons open up the possibility of teaching students located anywhere!
Although the style of online lessons is a bit different than in-person lessons, the structure, lesson material, and benefits remain largely the same. Students are able to continue to practice their weekly assignment and progress consistently. One advantage to online lessons is that they are more like a one-on-one clinic. Instead of playing along with my students I can listen to them play, demonstrate for them, and give feedback about their performance. I even have new students that I taught how to play from the absolute beginning! Taking online music lessons is a great way to learn the basics of a new instrument, keep up consistent practice and assignments, and progress, so when in-person lessons resume you can start as a more advanced player.
